FOURTH PHASE – From the Taboos and Phobias of Science to Magic

In the last years of the 20th century, the suspicion appeared and swiftly spread that a
lot of work that always was considered as unbiased, impartial, objective and precise
scientific practice, was not exactly that way. A growing number of criticism and
accusations has shown that a large part of what is considered as science, or scientific,
in fact is the exercise of a devotion very similar to the one found in religious sects
that multiply around the leaders that appear frequently.
Connected or not to immediate political and economical interests, three scientific
currents dominated last century, following prophets that emerged in the previous century:
Darwinism, Freudian psychoanalysis and Marxism. On behalf of their devotion to those
sects, or induced by a cultural inertia linked to the materialistic paradigm, scientists
and competent intellectuals became disoriented, surrendering to procedures incompatible
with the exemplary behavior science always alleged to observe.
This kind of situation, in which many researchers and science workers involve themselves,
is more serious when financial or political interests interfere.

It is not easy the mutual understanding between Eastern and Western educated people on
themes of philosophical nature, or of just wider concern than the simple pragmatism of
everyday actions.
For a Chinese aware of his or her traditions and culture, the perception of the world
differs a lot from the Western way of seeing and understanding things. However, that seems
to be a transitory situation and soon a new form of understanding the things and of being
in the world will be synthesized.
Western philosophers' considerations have been built on top of verbal concepts and
abstractions. Therefore they are fragile and neither useful as a guide for the most
important actions of life nor to interpret the relentless flowing events. The secret flow
of history and of each one's life only will be understood and lived, without friction nor
obstacles, when the knowledge of what Tao is spreads more. However, that cannot be
considered nor explained.
At this time, when the consciousness of Gaia is outlined, the participation of the Chinese
way of understanding what is called reality should be outstanding, for that consciousness
to be really a manifestation of wisdom.

The process denominated contemporary civilization have been reverenced as the modern
human being's natural form of existing. Civilization is considered the most advanced stage
of social evolution, as something good and precious that should be protected and praised
for its conquests and for the level of development attained in the control of natural
forces.
However, is that true? Will it be that the modern human being, that has just inaugurated a
new millennium, can be really proud of the results that civilization have been providing
him, or her? And if everything that is called civilization is in fact an alluring enormous
hoax?
Here it is shown as the process called civilization can be looked as a change of essential
values of the spirit by beads, mirrors and foolishness. Just as the civilized ones have
done to more integrated with nature peoples, that they conquered and destroyed.
Here civilization is shown as a fragile technological raft that swiftly goes down the
rapids of a river of blood, conducted by senseless men. The hope of a future for the human
being require a rediscovery of the essential myths deliberately discarded in the latest
five millennia.
